The 3pm Water Chug

Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference.

"Simple but not always easy"  might be our motto for implementing new habits amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Autumn is a time when the dry quality becomes more prevalent in the natural world. The plants dry out after growing all summer, and the autumn wind steals moisture from the surface of our skin.

Hydration is key for our bodies to function well, being that we are comprised mostly of water. In Autumn, when the warmth from summer has passed and no longer inspires us to remember to hydrate, dehydration can lead to some unfortunate outcomes. I see this often show up in many of my clients later in the day, as they often don't drink enough water in the hours after lunch.

In the middle of the afternoon, do you experience any of these things:

  • Energy dips
  • Anxiety
  • A desire to take a nap
  • Brain fog
  • Cravings for sweets (or food in general)

If any of these resonate with you, it is quite possible that you're struggling with dehydration.

Most of us front-load hydration in the morning. Then after lunch, very little water gets consumed, leading to feeling pretty lousy around 3pm.

What's the solution?

The 3pm water chug!

Try drinking 2-4 cups of warm water around 3pm each afternoon (it helps if you set a daily alarm on your phone to remind you). I use a quart mason jar, which is 4 cups.

Don't demurely sip the water, really gulp it down and see how you feel afterward. Try it for a few days and let me know how you feel. Your cells will be so grateful!

Your hydration = Your happiness.

This habit also saves you from realizing you are thirsty much later in the day, drinking lots of water in the evening, and then having to wake up a couple of times to pee in the night, leading to disturbed sleep.

Stay aligned with your deepest desires for optimal vitality by implementing simple habits into your days.

With love and light,

Hannah
